Submitted Stories: 7
Rejections: 6
Novel Queries for Taraxaca: 3
Rejections: 3

It’s giving déjà vu.

The complaint is the same – time, always time. But, we’re sorting it out, finding a rhythm, and November promises a week off from both jobs, and I can’t wait to write and read and rot.

I plan to spend some time this month querying my AstRomance novel. I really love this story, and I feel a little guilty for neglecting it these last couple months. While I query, I’m also digging back into the drafting process of my fantasy project; I hit a bit of a wall right before work picked up, and now I’m rethinking some things, so I’m going to play with the outline a bit and pick up where I left off to see how it unfolds. I also have revisions hanging over me and it seems possible to get them done by the end of the year – I’d like to get this pass done as I start outlining another project in the same universe, and there’s a lot of rereading and research review I have to do. A busy month or two ahead of me if I want to hit my Q4 writing goals – I think I can, between the breaks and testing out a new schedule at home.

Also—it’s November! Every November is a big writing month. Partially because of the old NaNoWriMo, a bit because of the holiday break. In the absence of NaNo the last couple years, I’ve seen so many different Novel-Writing-Month groups pop up, and while I’m not officially writing with any one group, it’s nice to know there are a whole lot of other writers setting big goals and writing towards them. 50k sounds like a nice goal, and should put me back on track for my draft, so we’ll see how it goes.

While I’m looking at my writing goals, I think I can manage to get a couple more submissions in before the end of the year, too. I had a moment of embarrassment, quickly followed by relief, at being informed that Hiraeth Publishing and their anthology of Untold Tales of the Round Table doesn’t close until January 1, 2027 – thank you to the editor who commented on my previous submitting post! I’m glad to hear I have more time to get my story(ies) together.

Still planning to get something in for Writers of the Future, which closes at the end of the year. It is nice to have a steady, predictable deadline every few months with their quarterly contests – it would be fun to join the club, as one of my cohort from Western won last year.

I’m currently brainstorming for potential pitches to send to Little Ghosts Books for their No Gods, No Billionaires anthology. Working with them in the past was a delight, I love the concept, I got the t-shirt, and I hope I can channel some of this rage into words. The deadline to submit pitches is November 30.

If I can get some momentum going this month, I’d like to send something to Terror Core Publishing for their Tails of Terror horror anthology. Closing December 1, they’re seeking stories about pets gone wrong. The setting is in my home state, there’s a Pet Sematary vibe with an opportunity to play eldritch horror. It sounds fun!

Hopefully I’ll have some actual updates to my stats by the next Submitting Sunday.
