Spooky Sunday – Happy Halloween! – October 31, 2026
Another blink, and we’re through October.
I was so busy, I forgot to suffer.
This month, I celebrated the memory of a late, dear friend, learned about the circle of fifths, celebrated my cousin’s marriage, and got to see the sea. I didn’t get much writing done, but I have some ideas brewing in the old cauldron.
Halloween is one of my favorite holidays, though you wouldn’t know it. We didn’t decorate this year, didn’t attend any spooky events, watched the normal number of horror movies, and while we are dressing up tonight, we’re staying in. Still, I love it. The leaves are crunchy and piling steadily up, it’s finally cooler, and there’s this colorful pop of magic before we enter the dark months.

I am limiting my use of Meta social media right now, then taking a full break after Election Day on Tuesday until Friday the 13th, at least. While I don’t have much of my own writing and content out in the world, and this AI-training website-scraping might not apply to my profiles as they are not labeled business pages, the constant, unyielding, entitled invasion of AI-everything with no options for opting out is maddening. Many of my friends are artists and authors, and their content will likely be a part of this, may already have been a part of this. With nonexistent regulations in the States, it seems like the only way to avoid the slop and scrape is to disconnect entirely: a difficult thing to do. So, I’ll be taking a break, joining the blackout, after Election Day, in solidarity with those who have more at stake than I do, in a gesture of disapproval for these tactics, and as a test to see how I handle the social media withdrawals.
Submitting Sunday ought to be on schedule tomorrow, with some dismal numbers from me, but some exciting submission calls ahead!
The Miscellanea:
This month, I’ve been listening to the album Peasant Rising by Netherwilds.
It. Is. Fantastic. If prog-metal narrative albums are your thing, if you like Renaissance Festivals and revolution, if a mosh pit in the Prancing Pony sounds like fun, definitely check them out.
